Poem #32

An afternoon hollowed
by caffeine drop, pinning
blank memories in the space
behind my eyes, the shell of myself
fingers at keyboard ready to fulfill
commitments of success. Her curious
nature peers off the back step
inviting my mind, body and spirit to
reconvene in the crisp air with her
by my side. bursts of color shake
loose the spell of numbness,  pull
the prayer from my gut to my lips
blessed in the passage between
Merwin and Marietta, an utterance
I have since forgotten in syllables
but know in the colors of passing time.
